Years ago, as a freshman taking Anthro 101, I came across the concept of “clock time”— that we in the Western world conceptualize time in a particular way that arose in large part from industrialization. It kinda blew my mind. Later that year, I experienced a different conception of time when I started playing in the Javanese Gamelan ensemble.
